At the ongoing MWC Shanghai 2017 conference, Qualcomm announced its ‘Advanced’ fingerprint scanning and authentication technology. The company will be showcasing the technology on a customized version of Vivo XPlay6 smartphone.
The new ‘ultrasonic fingerprint solution,’ as Qualcomm says, will include sensors not only for the display, but also for glass and metal surfaces. The sensors will support directional gestures, underwater fingerprint matching and device wake-ups.
Rumours about flagship smartphones having on-screen fingerprint sensors being launched have been doing the rounds of the web since last year.For now, Apple is rumoured to be bringing screen-embedded fingerprint sensor in its upcoming iPhone 8 smartphone. However, it seems chip giant Qualcomm is all ready with the technology.
